Personal Social Health Education
PSHE Leaders: Mrs Jepson and Mr Bond
At Holme JI School we have introduced a whole school Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) scheme called Jigsaw. PSHE helps to develop emotional literacy, build resilience and support mental and physical wellbeing, in turn supporting emotional awareness, concentration and focus.
Jigsaw is a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme (Puzzle) at the same time. Jigsaw aims to help children know and value who they really are and how they relate to other people in this ever-changing world. There are Puzzles (half-term units of work) each with Pieces (lessons). Each year group teaches six lessons per half term and all lessons are delivered in an age- and stage- appropriate way so that they meet children’s needs.
These themes are:
- Being Me in My World
- Celebrating Difference
- Dreams and Goals
- Healthy Me
- Relationships
- Changing Me
Within each of these themes children also learn about British Values of Democracy; Rule of Law; Individual Liberty; Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs.
The changing me puzzle piece is also linked to the DFE RSE Guidance
This Half Term focus is...
Celebrating Difference
This half term we are learning from the unit Celebrating Difference. The unit aims to help children understand and accept that everyone is different and good at different things. There is a focus on understanding what bullying is and how to help someone who is being bullied. Children learn about the importance and impact of using kind words for making friends and how to begin to solve problems themselves by knowing who to talk to if they feel bullied. In addition, some units looks at family differences and conflict, respecting other cultures and understanding disability.
