Class 1
Welcome to Class One.
We are currently made up of 13 wonderful children in Reception, Year One and Year Two. In Class, Miss Wood is our current Class Teacher and we are joined by Mrs. Cieciala, Miss Fisher and Mrs Herbert.
Please remember, if you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to ask. Feel free to catch us on the door, email via the school office or arrange a telephone call. We are always more than happy to help!
Learning this term
During the first half term, children will be learning ‘What is it like to live in Shanghai’. Within this topic, children will learn about their own locality before exploring another continent. They will identify physical and human features as well as look at what life is like in Shanghai.
In the second part of the term, pupils will focus on the History topic ‘How have toys changed?' Children will discuss their favourite toy using language related to the past. Ask questions about toys in the past. Identify changes between teddy bears today and those from 100 years ago and describe how toys have changed over time.

Important Information
Reading days
We are passionate about developing life-long readers. In school, your child will be read with three times a week by an adult. Please ensure that your child is reading little but often at home, as well as in school. We encourage you to sign their Reading Records to indicate that they have read at home, with an adult. Please aim to sign your Reading Record at least X3 weekly. The children will bring home two reading books each week. One will be from our Little Wandle reading scheme if in Reception/Year 1 or Collins Big Cat in Year 2, this book is swapped on a Monday. The other book will be one of their own choice from the school library, this book will be swapped on a Friday. Please ensure your child has both books with them on their reading day each week so they can swap them.
Spelling
For Year 1 and 2 Spelling is taught through the Spelling Shed scheme and children use the app or online platform to practise every week for homework. Alternatively, they can practise with the worksheets sent home. Each Monday, your child will be tested on their spellings and they will be given their new spellings/homework.
P.E.
Our PE day is Thursday. Children should come to school wearing their P.E. kit.
